"There are no tyrannies that would not try to limit art, because they can see the power of art. Art can tell the world things that cannot be shared otherwise. It is art that conveys feelings."

 - Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine

Luc Tuymans

Wiedergutmachung, 1989
Drawing , 84 x 57 cm
watercolour, paper

As is the case with the most of Tuymans his work, does not attract the picture itself our attention, but the possibility of reconstruction of a moment or a fact. This watercolor treated the theme of "The Wiedergutmachung", a German system with which the German government after World War II irrationally money to Holocaust survivors and others who were direct victims of the Nazis. The word literally translated means 'to make it good again'.
