In a mausoleum-like construction, we see the video installation Laid to Rest (1998). The work presents animated montages, mainly of stereotypical images of ‘black’ behaviour, including figures involved in fragmentary, random acts of violence like robberies and drive-by shootings. At the bottem is a doll laid out in a coffin surrounded by funeral wreaths. The cubicle is closed-off, and thus the projected images may only be seen by peeking through small holes in the wall. The crypt-like space and darkness give the feeling of a memorial.
