After attending an exhibition in the Groeninge Museum in Bruges on Stigmata in the work of Flemish masters Jan Fabre becomes greatly attracted to the body as a subject. The physical shock of seeing for example Gerard David’s Judgement of Cambyses, urges him to penetrate his own body.
