The video work My Grandfather’s Skin is based on the repressed stories of Yana Bachynska’s ancestors. Those stories were rediscovered by the artist in his pursuit of a better understanding of himself. All the stories, which were repressed, are often repeated. By turning to the past and the forgotten, Bachynska strives to find the causes for the current state and avoid the repetition of history. Such discoveries not only help to embrace current reality but also serve as the impetus for future changes.
