"There are no tyrannies that would not try to limit art, because they can see the power of art. Art can tell the world things that cannot be shared otherwise. It is art that conveys feelings."

A trained architect, Adrien Tirtiaux (b. 1980, Etterbeek) strives to redefine space with his work, using strategies such as inversion, diversion and displacement to question the physical and socio-political structures that define a given space. He prioritises fiction over function, fragility over solidity, and unfinishedness over organisation. Tirtiaux’s oeuvre frequently references Franco-Belgian comic book culture. L’Aventure dans la savane is the very first comic strip he ever drew at the age of seven or eight. The artist deploys a variety of styles, even referring to existing comics series in some instances. Besides autobiographical stories, he also draws comics that document architectural plans and the complex process from idea to execution.

Adrien Tirtiaux is represented by Otty Park Gallery.
